Pork Adobo: The House of JCJEE Version

Saturday is our Market Day. And when we went to market last Saturday, I bought 50 pieces of quail eggs. It was not included on the list of things we will buy but I felt the craving for quail eggs. Moreover, I also realized that it has been a couple of months ago since we last served a dish with quail eggs on the table. We are supposed to have the regular pork adobo when an idea suddenly popped out of my mind and suggested my husband to add hard-boiled quail eggs to our usual Pork Adobo to give the dish a twist. 

Adobo is a famous Filipino dish. Ask a foreigner who has gone to the Philippines and was served adobo, they will say that it is really tasty and flavorful. Because of the Filipinos' creativity and ingenuity, Adobo now has different versions. The most popular versions of the Filipino Adobo are Pork Adobo, Chicken Adobo, or the combination of both Chicken-Pork Adobo. Some vegetables, such as kangkong (water spinach) and sitaw (string beans), as well as seafood like squid and mussels can also cooked and prepared the same way. 


While my husband is boiling the quail eggs, I started to prepare the rest of the ingredients. A few minutes later, the kids asked what will be our menu for lunch, they got excited after hearing the quail eggs. Their favorite! Joma volunteered to remove the egg shells after they were boiled and Eiya said she wanted to put the eggs in the pan and watch as they are being cooked. It was a family dish indeed! We called it The House of JCJEE Adobo: Pork Adobo with Quail Eggs.

    1. We have to think out of the box to create new dishes out of the traditional ones so that kids will always look forward to family meals.

  2. It's been a while since I've had adobo, and quail eggs as well.. :D I remember when I was younger, my lil sis and I would also volunteer to peel off the quail egg shells. But of course, we'd eat most of those quail eggs so our mom would be left with only a few pieces for the dish she'll be using them with. We don't eat a lot of quail eggs now though, masyadong mataas sa cholesterol.. >.<

    1. Exactly the thing! My kids would volunteer to help us remove the egg shells so that they can eat some of them while doing the task. Out of the 50 quail eggs that I bought, only half of them were added to the adobo. Where are the rest? You know the answer.

    1. Adobo with chicken eggs is very common. Admittedly, it was the thought of using chicken eggs that this recipe came to be. Use quail eggs for a change!

  8. here in Pampanga, we have different versions of adobo. Adding quail eggs is very common here. I love it most because I like the twist with the eggs. More yummy!

    1. I never knew that Kapampangans have been doing this. All this time, I only see chicken eggs. We love quail eggs in our vegetable or soup dishes. It is my first time to include quail eggs in our adobo.

  11. My family loves it when I cook adobo, especially when I add eggs. Mas ganado ako kumain ng adobo pag mag egg. :) Yummy looking adobo on your photo :)
